Dragons to play at home

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Douglas United Dragons will kick off their season on Friday night with a home game at Cassowary Park against the Marlin Coast Rangers.

Dragons’ coach for 2011 Nick Tither has the boys primed for a big game, with the next few weeks pitting United against many of the competition’s top teams from 2010.

The United squad boasts the core of the premiership 2010 winning side, including the back five of keeper Fitzgerald, backs Soltwedel, Butterrs, Tither and Marsh, and midfielders Syrett, Lee,Houghton and Smith with a few new faces as well. The league’s top scorer from 2010, Joe Abedini, is set to make his return in mid-April.

The players are keen to take to the pitch in expectation of a clean fast game in dry conditions, a marked change to recent weeks spent on the rain-sodden training ground.

The game kicks off at 8pm with all supporters urged to come and support the Dragons as they strive this year to defend the titles they brought back to Douglas in 2010.
