Man beaten senseless

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

A PORT Douglas man was severely beaten while walking home from a night out on Sunday morning.

The 22-year-old victim was walking through the Coles underground carpark between 2.45-3.15am on Sunday when he was approached by two men and allegedly assaulted in an unprovoked attack.

The victim was kicked repeatedly in the head during the attack and suffered two black eyes which required stitches in hospital.

It is believed the alleged attackers were involved in a brawl not involving the victim prior to the assault.

Port Douglas Officer-inCharge Sergeant Damien Meadows said the alleged offenders had been identified on CCTV and police had “an idea” who they were but were yet to speak to them.

He said police would discuss preventative measures with the owners of the Coles property to ensure the area is safe in future.

“People need to be mindful that one punch can kill,” he said. “In this case it could have had a very different outcome for all of the people involved.”

Any witnesses to the attack are urged to contact Port Douglas police on 4099 5220.
