Wind swell with new beach buggy

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FUN SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES -

WHAT do you get when you cross a kite with a buggy?

The official name of the latest contraption to hit Four Mile Beach is a blow-cart, but unofficially it’s being called “heaps of fun”.

Brett “Bretto” Wright has bought two of the gadgets to fill in the blanks on a beach that already offers plenty of wind- powered watersports fun. The owner of Windswell Kitesurfing, Bretto was looking for a way to entertain himself on days when there wasn’t quite enough wind to get on a kite-board. At the moment, he only has one-seater buggies, but is hoping a twoseater conversion will be ready soon.

“At the moment though, if you’ve got your own kite, I’d be happy to let you take it for a spin,” he said.

While the buggy can get up to a fair turn of speed in the right conditions, Bretto admits it isn’t the easiest vehicle to control in variable conditions.

“It’s ideal for those days when you’ve got a steady 10 or 15 knots,” he said.
