Muddies season over

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

BOTH Muddies outfits put up a fight but ultimately bowed out in the semi-final of the two-day cricket competition on the weekend.

The C-Grade Muddies could only field 10 players against Atherton and managed 102 in their first innings, with opener Sam Evans top-scoring with 30 supported by top order batsmen Steve Doble and Simon Cody who both scored 19.

In reply, Atherton notched up 136 all out, with Cody starring with the ball to bag 5-48.

Cody continued his good form with the bat in the second innings to score 50 not out.

Matt Coomb chimed in with 44 but with the Muddies needing to win outright to reach the final the team declared on 4-142. Atherton reached stumps on 4-112 to win.

B-Grade faced a similar scenario and had to push for an outright win against Mulgrave. The Muddies were chasing a target of 146 in the first innings but were all out for 105, with Simeon Miglioranza top-scoring with 66 not out.

Mulgrave were then bowled out for 121 in the second innings, but this proved too much for the Muddies who were bowled out for 100. Dave Joyce top-scored with 35. Pick of the bowlers was Daryl Mison who collected nine wickets for the match.
