Poor puppy takes bait
A THREE-MONTH-OLD puppy is still recovering after being baited in her backyard in Port Douglas last week.
Owners Krees Krul and his partner Jessie went out for dinner last Tuesday night and returned home at 9.30pm to a broken fence and sausages stuffed with rat poison in their backyard.
The couple took their beloved pets, puppy Ella and their six year old dog Nick, to the clinic as make the animals empty their poisoned stomachs.
“Ella had eaten about three of the sausages so we were really lucky to have come home when we did,” Mr Krul said.
“When we came home our front fence had been kicked down and the dogs were panting and stressing.
“We couldn’t find the puppy anywhere because she was hiding - she was terrified.”
According to the neighbours the dogs were barking loudly and a tall man came over to the house and started yelling at the fence.
The man allegedly kicked the fence and threw something over it.
“This is really upsetting that someone would do this to our pets,” Mr Krul said.
“If the dogs are barking you contact the neighbours-you don’t bait them.
“We would like to warn the community there is someone out there who is doing this and it’s important for neighbours to look out for each other.”
Police are currently investigating the offence and are urging witnesses to contact them on 4087 1999.
