Innovation earns the votes of the people
GUY Besley hopes people like him.
That’s because Guy and the team at Latitude Resorts in Port Douglas have been nominated for the Telstra Business Awards 2011 in both the micro-business and people’s choice categories.
There are nine categories in the awards, which are open to most Australian businesses.
Mr Besley said the awards rewarded innovation.
“For a small company, I think we’re pretty innovative,” he said. “A lot of things we’re doing are really unique, especially in terms of marketing initiatives.
“We work a great deal with social media, focussing more heavily on Twitter than Facebook, but we’re doing a lot of experimentation.
“I’m getting hundreds of views daily on my blog. It’s all about promoting the destination.”
As a smaller tourism services provider, Mr Besley said it was important for Latitude Resorts to work with other companies.
“We’ve put together a wholesale brochure for the inde- pendent travel agent network, bringing together 30 accommodation houses and 25 tour groups in the region,” he said.
“We’re pushing the region as a whole package, from the Cairns to the Daintree, not just our products.
“It’s a way the little guys can compete with the big boys.”
There are nearly 300 entrants in the people’s choice award, so competition will be tough. If you want to get behind Latitude Resorts, vote at www.telstrabusinessawards.com.
