Car­ling keeps pace

ROAD run­ner Nick Car­ling stayed on track last Satur­day win­ning sec­ond place in the Cairns Court­house Ho­tel Lit­tle Street Se­ries.

Mr Car­ling was one of the 86 run­ners who raced the 10km course in Cairns and said it was a very com­pet­i­tive race.

“I man­aged to fol­low the track prop­erly this time with­out tak­ing any de­tours but it was very tough run­ning in the heat,” he said.

Mike LeRoux was the win­ner of the race who fin­ished in 35 min­utes and 45 sec­onds, fol­lowed by Mr Car­ling with a time 36 min­utes and nine sec­onds.

His time im­proved from the first race of the se­ries where he fin­ished on 41 min­utes and 34 sec­onds af­ter tak­ing a small de­tour.

Se­ries win­ners for the day were Nick Car­ling (10km) and Natalie Bod­ding­ton (10km), Paul Ryan (5km) and Tjana Furnar­iSoutham (5km), Sam Ederveen (3km) and Mon­tanna McAvoy (3km).

The Port Dou­glas Run­ners Club has be­gun so­cial runs at 6am on Mon­day morn­ings from Ju­lan Park (beach end of Macrossan St).

There are 3km, 5km and 7.5km dis­tances to choose from which you take at your own pace and times are recorded each week to record your progress.

So­cial runs are free for club mem­bers or $5 ca­sual visit. Mem­ber­ship is $35 for the rest of the year and in­cludes free so­cial runs and dis­counted race fees for both Port Dou­glas Run­ners and Cairns Road Run­ners events.
