U12 Raiders show Cairns club how to play the game

PORT Dou­glas Un­der 12 Raiders en­tered the Trin­ity Anglican School sevens rugby union competition last Fri­day and come out vic­to­ri­ous.

The boys strug­gled at first, not know­ing the rules, but came out on top win­ning 22-nill.

Player of the match was awarded to Dean Mc­Carthy and Tom Allen for their de­fence skills which helped the boys to an easy vic­tory.

The team played well in the sec­ond game with each player scor­ing a try.

Dha­reese Bowen played ex­cep­tion­ally well and scored a dou­ble try and had ex­cel­lent goal kick­ing.

Their at­tack skills im­proved in game three win­ning 48-nil, with the Un­der 11 player Camp­bell Allen re­ceiv­ing man of the match and cap­tain Tully Cartwright putting in out­stand­ing ef­fort.

In their fourth game the boys played well but un­for­tu­nately let in the only tried scored against them in the whole car­ni­val, leav­ing the fi­nal score to be 46-7.

Man of the match was awarded to Aaron Dunwell, and top try scorer was An­gus Dick­son.

With­out los­ing a game through­out the car­ni­val the boys were set to win the grand fi­nal and beat the op­po­si­tion 46-nil.

Man of the match was Matthew Ch­ester­field who was awarded for be­ing a great team and rugby player.

Over­all the boys were un­de­feated through­out the day, win­ning all five games. Each player scored 3 or more tries. The boys were ter­rific and had great fun.
