Bowls Club c’ships go down to wire

LAST Satur­day’s Cham­pi­onship Fours re­sults saw a win for the Doug Pitt skipped team of Arthur McDon­ald, Ge­orge Wil­mot and Dick Pitt as well as win­ning the meat trays in the sec­ond game.

Dave Egan’s team of Peter Ghys, Colt Dwyer and Grant Banks got out of jail af­ter be­ing down 13 shots with only three ends to play.

Col Maxted’s team folded, los­ing 13 shots only to get beaten in sud­den death. The jack­pot still sits at $350.

So­cial bowls will be held next Satur­day due to the Easter week­end.

In ladies bowls news, Cham­pi­onship Fours competition pro­gressed with Clair Hol­loway (25) de­feat­ing Zina Gir­genti (16).

Bev Zillfleisch (25) de­feated Mar­garet Cooper (13); Estelle O’Rourke (26) de­feated Maria Mijo (22) and Greta Kessler (25) de­feated Jan Gard (22).

Ca­role Maxted, Val Robin­son and Jean Marsh won the so­cial bowls. So­nia Ed­wards was the raf­fle win­ner.

This week’s competition games are Clair Hol­loway v Estelle O’Rourke with Bar­bara May mark­ing and Bev Zillfleisch v Greta Kessler with Mar­garet Cooper mark­ing.

This week will also be Val Sharpe’s 80th birth­day so come along and wish her well. Competition win­ners will play on April 21.
