Little Athletics is back in Mossman
LITTLE athletics is back in action next week.
The beloved after-school athletics club known as Little Athletics has been out of action for the last six years and is holding a sign-up day next Wednesday, April 27.
Children between five and 17 years of age can sign up and participate in a variety of athletic events such as track, long jump, high jump, hurdles and javelin.
Coach and organiser of the club Laura Berney is hoping to provide local children with an opportunity to excel in their athletic abilities in the region rather than having to travel to Cairns to train.
“The reason I am starting up Little Athletics is because it gives local kids a chance to keep track of their personal performances, excel in athletics and compete in other competitions,” she said.
“There are a lot of very athletics children in this region who don’t enjoy playing team sports.
“Little Athletics will open up more opportunities for children who have a passion and interest in athletic events.”
Ms Berney has taught Little Athletics in London and Sydney but is calling for community support and volunteers.
The children will train every Wednesday afternoon at the Mossman High School Oval between 3.30pm and 5.30pm under the supervision of coaches.
Centre manager is Vicky Sparks, secretary is Jenni Walker, treasurer is Christine Callander and coach is Laura Berney.
