Hwy closed for triathlon
THE quickest way to get from Port Douglas to Cairns on Sunday, 5 June, will be to join the USM Challenge Cairns triathlon.
Unless you’re dressed in lycra, you’ll have to take the long way around while hundreds, if not thousands, of athletes cycle around (and around) Port Douglas all day long.
The Captain Cook Highway will be closed to all non-event traffic all day, from 7am until 4.30pm. If you do want to drive to Cairns that day, the organisers are advising residents to leave Port before 6am.
Old Port Rd will be closed all day, although traffic will be allowed to cross under supervision between Nautilus St and Ulysses Ave.
There will be further crossing points at Langley Rd, Seabrook Ave, Mahogany St, Blake St and Mowbray St.
Controlled traffic will be permitted along one lane of Port Douglas Rd between Mahogany St and Old Port Rd.
