Business booming in Daintree over holiday break

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

ONE of the Daintree’s renowned tourism operators, Crocodile Express Daintree Cruises, has been booming with business over the Easter holidays thanks to the free ferry.

Owner Dean Clapp described these holidays to be “the best Easter he has ever had” with his boats operating continuously on the river.

“The numbers of people in the Daintree was fantastic, we had an excellent Easter,” he said.

“Our river cruises and retail store were very popular over the holiday period and we have been flat out.

“The cruises have been operating a lot more and we have had an increase in sales and visitors to the business.

“The businesses are here in the Daintree - we just needed the people.”

Not only has the busy period boosted the local economy, it has also lifted the spirits of tourism operators working in the Daintree and in Cape Tribulation after the last two years of economic hardship.

“It is a real boost for us to know our business can go back to the way it was operating five years ago before the global financial crisis,” Mr Clapp said.

“People from across the river have also contacted me and said that they have had an excellent Easter period and have received great response from the free ferry rides.

“We would like to thank the Cairns Regional Council for supporting the free ferry as it has been great for business and tourism in the Daintree and in Cape Tribulation.”
