Hard yakka stolen

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

A WONGA Beach 12-year-old who worked hard mowing lawns to buy an outboard engine has just three words for the thieves who stole it from him - give it back.

Josh Halstead is devastated after the 3.5hp engine, which has a unique home-made handle on it, was cut from the 12-foot boat next to his house last Wednesday night.

His mother Tammy said the whole family was home when the engine was stolen but they did not hear anything.

“There are three cars to pass to get to the engine, there are bikes next to it and a drag nets, but they only wanted the engine,” she said. “They came in with a hacksaw and cut the power block off and walked off with the motor.”

Tammy said she believes the poisoning of her dogs a fortnight ago may be related to the theft of the engine.

“Our dogs were fed something poisonous, the vet thinks it was Ratsak but we don’t use anything like that on our property,” she said.

This latest theft is one of five which have occurred in Wonga Beach recently, including the Halstead’s family car.
