The Heat hotter than ever

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - RICHARD STOKER

IT MAY be winter but the Port Douglas Heat basketball team have come back hotter than ever after winning the Musgrove District Basketball Association competition on June 16.

The new season bounced off on Thursday night at the Trinity Bay courts in Smithfield against the prestigious Wizards, although both sides had player changes being the first game of the season.

And while the play at times was a little scrappy there were some excellent long passes and three point baskets executed in a sign of things to come.

“We started this season playing a lot better than we started last season and some of our players are members of the Crocs, so for the moment they are concentrating on their football,” said Heat’s point guard Nathan Stoker, who previously played at state level in Western Australia.

As with the final match last season, the sizzling Heat won every quarter.

The team is urging anyone who is interested in playing basketball to turn up for scratch games on Wednesday evenings at the Mossman courts, next to the council chamber, at 6pm.
