Marriner’s Mirage vision needs more work: Crean
FEDERAL Minister for Regional Development and Local Government Simon Crean was briefed on David Marriner’s proposal to refurbish the Sheraton Mirage resort last month and believes the concept needs more work.
A spokesman for the Minister for Regional Development Simon Crean confirmed with the Gazette that Minister Crean recently met with David Marriner and was briefed on the proposal.
“Minister Crean recently met with David Marriner and was briefed on Mr Marriner’s concept for the refurbishment of the Mirage Resort and development of an adjoining cultural and convention centre,” the spokesman said.
“Mr Marriner was encouraged to engage with key stakeholders including the RDA Far North Queensland and Torres Strait to build community support for his project in the context of other region priorities.
“The Minister’s position is that the concept needs more and engagement with the community and local RDAs.”
