Back­yard no hur­dle for po­lice­man

A MOSS­MAN po­lice of­fi­cer chased down an of­fender across Alchera Drive, through on­com­ing traf­fic, over a fence and through seven back­yards to ar­rest him for breach­ing his bail con­di­tions.

The 23-year-old Moss­man man re­ceived a sur­prise visit from the of­fi­cer at 6pm on Au­gust 3 when he was caught red-handed breach­ing his bail con­di­tions at home.

The of­fi­cer was check­ing to see if the man was com­ply­ing with his bail con­di­tions not to con­sume al­co­hol.

The man fled and was chased and ar­rested in­side a home on Pringle St 30 min­utes later.

Moss­man Of­fi­cer-in-Charge Sergeant Ed Lukin said the of­fi­cer was as­saulted dur­ing the ar­rest.

“The of­fi­cer was struck by the man dur­ing the ar­rest but re­ceived mi­nor in­juries,” he said.

The man was charged for breach­ing his bail con­di­tions, as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer, ob­struct­ing po­lice and pub­lic nui­sance.

He was im­me­di­ately trans­ported to Cairns watch house and faced the Cairns Mag­is­trate’s Court on Au­gust 4.

He was re­manded in cus­tody and ap­peared in the Cairns Mag­is­trate’s Court yes­ter­day.
