Backyard no hurdle for policeman
A MOSSMAN police officer chased down an offender across Alchera Drive, through oncoming traffic, over a fence and through seven backyards to arrest him for breaching his bail conditions.
The 23-year-old Mossman man received a surprise visit from the officer at 6pm on August 3 when he was caught red-handed breaching his bail conditions at home.
The officer was checking to see if the man was complying with his bail conditions not to consume alcohol.
The man fled and was chased and arrested inside a home on Pringle St 30 minutes later.
Mossman Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Ed Lukin said the officer was assaulted during the arrest.
“The officer was struck by the man during the arrest but received minor injuries,” he said.
The man was charged for breaching his bail conditions, assaulting a police officer, obstructing police and public nuisance.
He was immediately transported to Cairns watch house and faced the Cairns Magistrate’s Court on August 4.
He was remanded in custody and appeared in the Cairns Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
