Toast with the most

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - ANGELIQUE PATTERSON

AFTER a nine-month break, the Port Douglas Toastmasters are back and ready to have a yarn.

Toastmaster president Henry Cotter told The Gazette the not-for-profit group has helped him with his own confidence.

“I had not done much public speaking until I had done the course, it is about getting people’s confidence up talking in public,” Mr Cotter said.

“We have a program we do twice a month on difference subjects to help give people confidence in public speaking.”

Mr Cotter is quick to point out Toastmasters is not about having a drink and practising your toast, it is a group of passionate speakers who help improve the confidence of others.

“We can help people who have a career to become more confident giving speeches in front of big groups, and any age is welcome,” he said.

“I am the oldest member at 76, it is fun when you get the confidence and young people will benefit in their career through it.”

The Toastmasters meet every first and third Monday of the month and the next meeting will be on Monday, September 5, at the Barrier Reef Tavern.
