Take pa to the picnic
FATHER’S Day on August 4 is just around the corner and it is time to show Dad some love by spending time with him – gift optional.
For those who enjoy spending Father’s Day outside having adventures, the Port Douglas Community Kindergarten is holding its annual Father’s Day picnic at the Rex Smeal Park.
Co-director of the kindergarten Erica Whillas is encouraging everyone to come along and have some fun with their fathers.
“We encourage the dads to be out there doing the activities with the kids, the old fashioned races including the sack race, three-legged race and egg and spoon race,” Ms Whillas said.
“I had one father who won the sack race last year who told me he had been trying for five years to win.”
The picnic is to help raise money for the community-run kindergarten and also to enjoy spending time with family.
“There will be an entry fee which covers all the activities including a water slide, wildlife Habitat animals, face painting, live music and the games,” Ms Whillas said.
The cost of the entry fee will also include a beer for dad and an icypole for the kids and there will be a raffle on the day with several prizes including the major prize of $1000 prize from NQ homes.
“We would love people to come to the father’s day picnic, all families are welcome, local families and even visitors to the area,” Whillas said.
“There will be good and drink for sale, so bring your rug and chairs but leave the picnic basket at home.”
The picnic on Sunday, August 4 goes from 11am to 3pm and entry is $7 per adult, $5 per child or $20 for a family pass of two adults, two children.
