FA­THER’S Day on Au­gust 4 is just around the cor­ner and it is time to show Dad some love by spend­ing time with him – gift op­tional.

For those who en­joy spend­ing Fa­ther’s Day out­side hav­ing ad­ven­tures, the Port Dou­glas Com­mu­nity Kinder­garten is hold­ing its an­nual Fa­ther’s Day pic­nic at the Rex Smeal Park.

Co-di­rec­tor of the kinder­garten Erica Whillas is en­cour­ag­ing every­one to come along and have some fun with their fa­thers.

“We en­cour­age the dads to be out there do­ing the ac­tiv­i­ties with the kids, the old fash­ioned races in­clud­ing the sack race, three-legged race and egg and spoon race,” Ms Whillas said.

“I had one fa­ther who won the sack race last year who told me he had been try­ing for five years to win.”

The pic­nic is to help raise money for the com­mu­nity-run kinder­garten and also to en­joy spend­ing time with fam­ily.

“There will be an en­try fee which cov­ers all the ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing a wa­ter slide, wildlife Habi­tat an­i­mals, face paint­ing, live mu­sic and the games,” Ms Whillas said.

The cost of the en­try fee will also in­clude a beer for dad and an icy­pole for the kids and there will be a raf­fle on the day with sev­eral prizes in­clud­ing the ma­jor prize of $1000 prize from NQ homes.

“We would love peo­ple to come to the fa­ther’s day pic­nic, all fam­i­lies are wel­come, lo­cal fam­i­lies and even visi­tors to the area,” Whillas said.

“There will be good and drink for sale, so bring your rug and chairs but leave the pic­nic bas­ket at home.”

The pic­nic on Sun­day, Au­gust 4 goes from 11am to 3pm and en­try is $7 per adult, $5 per child or $20 for a fam­ily pass of two adults, two chil­dren.
