Father of 14 shares secrets

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

normal grandfather like others who have two grandchildren. With a lot of grandchildren, you’ve got to share your love around.

For Father’s Day this year we will do what we usually do – the kids who are away give me a call, the ones who are around come down and have lunch.

When we raised our kids, we did not know if we were right or not, we just went along with it and watched them grow up.

Every weekend was a highlight, whether it was eating a watermelon out in the yard or going down to the beach skiing – it was all fantastic.

Everything seemed to work, we never worried about the kids – they would entertain themselves, they had plenty of room to roam around here.

They are fantastic kids, they had their squabbles but we never had any problems with them.

Life can be very simple if you want, these days there is too much emphasis on everything. Kids have got to be told what to do and what not do, when they can and when they can’t – kids cannot be kids anymore.

My advice to new fathers is to do the best you can, whatever you are doing is right and just let kids be kids.
