Central Cougars to face Rattle ‘N’ Hum
IT WAS make or break for the senior netballers this week to claim a spot in the grand final or end their season with a loss.
The Central Cougars bounced back after last week’s disappointment to claim the final spot in the grand final in a victory against the Young Guns.
The Guns came out confident with high hopes but could simply not match the experienced Cougars.
The team played a very controlled game and took every opportunity they were given.
The game was full of turn- overs, however the Cougars dominated each quarter converting the opportunities into goals, with a final score of 39-14.
The Cougars will now meet Rattle ‘ N’ Hum in the grand final next week, the two teams having a long history of rivalry.
In A-reserve the Sugarland Shooters gained their spot in the grand final after defeating the Pink Panthers with a final score of 26-19.
The Shooters had one up on the Panthers throughout the game but had to fight hard to obtain the win.
The Panthers put up a good fight but simply missed too many crucial opportunities over the game that resulted in the final loss.
The Shooters will now face Julatten Jewels next week; both teams are expected to show a great deal of skill.
B-grade saw a big upset with the Under-14 Rep team going down to the third placed Breakers.
The Under-14 Rep team were the favourites going into the game, having beaten the Breakers in most games this season.
The Breakers, however, were determined to prove everyone wrong and did so with an impressive 29-14 win.
The fast paced game saw errors by both teams but also some great skill from all players.
The Breakers would now meet the Jets next week, an interesting game to keep an eye on.
Locals are welcome to surround the courts to watch the seniors grand final games at 6.30pm on August 30.
Raffle prizes will be on offer including a trip on Quicksilver, meal vouchers at Hogs Breath Café, Four Mile Café and the Combines Club along with a Puma sports bag.
Lucky spectator prizes will also be given out with drinks and food will also be available.
