Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

IF YOU have an excellent idea for a sustainability initiative you could be in the running for a grant of up to $10,000.

The Cairns Regional Council is encouraging community organisations to apply for a new grant aimed at increasing the region’s sustainability and reducing climate change impacts.

The Climate Change and Sustainability Grant program is open to non-profit organisations that want to develop and implement programs, activities and projects that make a positive contribution to a sustainable future.

“This could be through improved energy efficiency, renewable energy projects, community education and engagement, developing community gardens and local food networks, increasing use of green transport or helping to enhance the resilience of local eco-systems to the impacts of climate change,” Mayor Val Schier said.

Applications for the Climate Change and Sustainability Grant program opened on Monday. Grants of up to a maximum $10,000 can be applied for.

There will be one funding round per year, which opened on Monday and will close in November.

Applications must be received on or before November 25.

To apply for a grant contact the sustainability officer on 4044 3312.
