Fu­ture QLD Premier caught in ‘dodgy deal’

THE man tipped to be­come the next Queens­land Premier has be­come em­broiled in con­tro­versy sur­round­ing his own­er­ship of two beach­front hol­i­day units in Port Dou­glas.

Queens­land Deputy Premier An­drew Fraser has re­ferred Lib­eral National Party leader Camp­bell New­man to the Crime and Mis­con­duct Com­mis­sion over his per­sonal fi­nan­cial in­ter­ests.

Mr Fraser said he re­ferred the Op­po­si­tion leader to the CMC fol­low­ing re­ports he may have breached the City of Bris­bane Act while Lord Mayor by not declar­ing all rel­e­vant fi­nan­cial in­ter­ests dur­ing his ten­ure.

It was re­vealed last week that Mr New­man is a share­holder in fam­ily com­pany Frome Hold­ings which owns two beach­front units in the Beaches com­plex on the Port Dou­glas es­planade.

Mr New­man said he did not need to de­clare the units be­cause he did not re­ceive any in­come from them.
