Close call for Jnr Mud­dies

THE Un­der 12 Dou­glas Mud­dies cap­tained by Daniel David­son played an ex­cit­ing match against Ma­reeba De­stroy­ers at Moss­man High School on Satur­day re­sult­ing in a close win to the ju­nior Mud­dies team.

The Mud­dies won the toss and went in to bowl first.

Open­ing bowler Levi Trewick took the first wicket of the day in his first over fin­ish­ing with 1-7 off 3 with one maiden.

Luke Twomey had the best bowl­ing fig­ures of the match with 2-6 off three overs closely fol­lowed by new­comer Hugo Walker on 2-20 off three overs. Hugo also made an out­stand­ing div­ing catch off Luke’s bowl­ing. Ryan Doble was again suc­cess­ful in tak­ing a wicket 1-6 as was Ash­ton Daven­port 1-19.

Daniel David­son and Nathan Deu­ble also took a great catch each. Ma­reeba fin­ished their in­nings on 7-161.

Dou­glas had a big job ahead of them to make the op­po­si­tion’s score and open­ing bats­men Nathan Deu­ble and Bryce Fabi­ani started off the in­nings with some great hits. Bryce scored four un­til he was caught and re­placed by Reuben Al­li­son.

Reuben faced up strongly and to­gether with Nathan bat­ted well un­til both re­tired to­gether af­ter fac­ing their fair share of balls.

Levi Trewick and Raine Sorensen were next to the crease and Levi was caught out with­out scor­ing fol­lowed shortly by Raine Sorensen af­ter be­ing bowled with­out mak­ing a run.

Hugo Walker was next into bat mak­ing nine runs from 10 balls un­til be­ing caught out.

Ryan Doble and Ash­ton Daven­port were also both caught out on two a-piece mak­ing it 7-78 off 15 overs.

The fi­nal two bats­men Daniel David­son and Keel Sorensen had a big job to do but to­gether they made a great part­ner­ship speed­ing up the run score and for the next 10 overs suc­ceeded in mak­ing 91 runs be­tween them with Daniel not out on 47 and Keel re­tir­ing on 44.

Nathan and Re­buen re­turned to the crease for the last few overs and Nathan fin­ished on his best score of 16 not out and Reuben five not out.

The Dou­glas Ju­nior Mud­dies won the game by only 12 runs on 7-173.

The Un­der-16 Dou­glas Mud­dies fin­ished their two-day match against Ather­ton at Tolga on Satur­day with a dis­ap­point­ing loss by only two runs.

The best bat­ting re­sults for the Mud­dies were Ben Shrimp­ton 27, David Coulthard 25 and Glen Ives on 17.

Wicket tak­ers for the match were Hay­den D’Ad­dona 3-9 off eight overs, Michael Schulz 3-19, Kaiden Sorensen 1-8 off eight, Ben Shrimp­ton 1-9 and Tom Goodall 1-10.

David and wick­et­keeper Ethan Mc­Cul­lough also made a great run out.

Ather­ton were all out for 107 and Dou­glas Mud­dies were all out for 105.
