Wanted - good men for cause
LAST week’s record drenching might have blown the dust off the region but it didn’t rain down what Loretta Bidgood needs - men.
The Ozcare Port Douglas diversional therapist would love it to be raining men to help her conduct more activities at the centre.
Despite constantly coming up with new ideas to engage residents and keep them active, she is in desperate need of a few blokes to help her out.
Ms Bidgood wants people of all ages and backgrounds and skills but with an emphasis on men to step up and help out.
“I really need men at the moment because I want to establish a men’s group so we can organise a fishing club or pub chats, working with tools and making items such as bird baths, whatever they feel like really,” Ms Bidgood said.
“But I find men relate better to men in more traditional fields such as using tools and making stuff and fishing - all the blokey things rather than a woman telling them. “But we need the ladies too. “They are invaluable in doing tasks such as reading the newspapers to our patients who want to know what is going on in the outside world as well as all other types of books and magazines.
“We would love any musicians or dancers anyone from the arts to come and volunteer, two to three hours a week would be great.”
Ozcare Port Douglas is a 74-bed aged care facility near Four Mile Beach which offers residential aged care for clients with dementia, low and high care needs.
