Get the German beers in
QUENCH your thirst with German beer and stuff yourself silly on German hotdogs and sauerkraut at this weekend’s Portoberfest.
The annual event is on again and kicking off at midday this Saturday with a live DJ and “beers of the world” drink specials.
Event organiser and Court House Hotel manager Jason Andersen is welcoming anyone over the age of 18 to attend.
“It’s a pretty big day with a best dressed competition and all of our staff will be dressed up,” he said.
“It’s a free event and we’ve got commemorative stein glasses to buy and to keep refilling.
“We’ve done it for the last four years and it’s just grown and is a great day to socialise and have a few coldies.”
There will be “German dancing girls” during the day and Big Noise will hit the stage at 7pm to keep the crowds entertained.
“We had about 400 people last year, so it’ll be a big one,” Jason said.
“There will be German food for sale and beer including Asahi, Peroni, Guinness, Heineken and Carlsberg - they’re not very popular for our climate except on Portoberfest.”
