Rain fails to dampen effort

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

A RAIN interrupted week didn’t dampen the enthusiasm and stop players getting out during the past week.

The men’s pennant’s moved to Mossman due to the heavy rain in Cairns. All grades made the most of the home-course advantage winning all grades and securing a semi-finals birth against Paradise Palms in both A and C grades.

A small field of ladies braved the rain in the Stableford competition. Ellen Clark won with 37 points ahead of Glenda Christensen on 33 points. Kerri Williams won nearest-the-pin on six and Shona Barbour won on eight.

Peter Chrisfield shot one-under par on Saturday to win the men’s competition with 38 points ahead of Ricki White on 37 points. John Cameron won nearest-the-pin on six, Charlie Kadic on eight, K Rockwell on 10, Brett Jurie on 13 and John Petherbridge on 17.

Jane Chidgey won the ladies competition with 34 points ahead of Shona Barbour on 33 points. Trish Landy won nearest-the-pin on eight and Judy McCormack won 13.
