Reef Doctors starts filming
THE celebrities are in town getting into character while Port Douglas is being transformed into Hope’s Island for new television series Reef Doctors.
Filming is presently underway on the grounds of the Sheraton Mirage golf club where a fake Jetty has been created on Packer’s Creek to film scenes on the boat when docked.
Executive producer Jonathan Shiff told the Gazette they started in this location this week and will film on the reef and in the Daintree next for other scenes.
“Thursday (today) we will be doing some filming on the water between Port and Low Isles and do stuff on the deck,” he said.
“The first underwater scenes will be on Friday with Rachel Gordon and Martin Sacks from Blue Heelers who play godparents to Lisa’s son whose boat drifts out and they are playing underwater documentary makers on the reef.
“On Saturday we start some helicopter work, this is probably the most helicopter work I’ve ever done in my life, just to get a smashingly spectacular shot of the reef.
“I want the cameras in the helicopter looking down on the boat gunning it across the reef, it will just look fantastic.”
The crew is still not certain yet on where they will be filming the underwater scenes.
“We used to film at Opal for Ocean Girl, we are looking for the best location,” Jonathan said.
“The hospital scenes will be on Mount Tambourine on the Gold Coast, in fact they drive away from the Port Douglas location, 100m up into the rainforest and emerge at the top of Mount Tambourine.
“We have already built the clinic and are building another house for Lisa where we will continue to film until the end of April.”
The show will consist of 13-one hour episodes and will be aired on Channel Ten next year.
