Daintree left out of boost
THE State Government has given a boost for ecotourism in national parks around Queensland - but not the Daintree.
As part of reforms to boost the tourism industry, the Government has chosen five national parks for the establishment of tourism accommodation and extending the terms of agreement periods.
Extending the terms of 20 years with an additional 20-year extension aims to entice operators to establish eco-friendly accommodation and see a return on their investment.
Minister for Tourism Jan Jarratt said the chosen sites were based on opportunities identified in the Tourism Opportunity Plans completed by Tourism Queensland and information from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service about sites where there has been previous interest or potential given tourism demand and gaps in the market.
