Fishing club casts first net
THE first of the monthly meetings for the Port Douglas and District Fishing Club gave members an insight into hooking up in the wet season.
Held the last Tuesday of November, Keith Graham from Branford’s Tackle Shop, Clifton Beach, was the guest speaker.
Organiser of the fishing club and Combined Club manager Kym Rowley said there was a great response from the members.
“Keith Graham gave a talk on fishing the wet season-inshore and offshore, this was about what species to target and what to use,” he said.
“He also gave an update on some of the latest equipment and members who attended found it very interesting, rewarding and cannot wait to put it into practice.”
The December meeting will be postponed until the beginning of January so it does not clash with people going away for Christmas and New Year’s.
“We are doing two in January, one on the third which will be with the coastguard and DPI in regards to boat safety and protecting our marine environment,” Rowley said.
“The other one will be on January 31 and will be Keith Graham again in regards to setting up tackle boxes and rigging your lines.
“Come down and see what it’s like, everyone is welcome and if they want to join, become members of the combined club.
“The fishing club is always looking for more members and everyone is welcome to attend our meeting.”
