Club stalwart smashes handicap with another win
MAKING a triumphant return to the winners’ circle has enabled Sea Temple Golf Club stalwart Hugh Collins to become the talk of the 19th hole after he bettered his handicap by five to take out Wednesday’s Bisque Stableford event with a well structured 41 points.
Trevor Hauff, a further three shots adrift, was outright second with a solid 38 points.
The count-back system was employed to determine that Alan White was third after a three-way tie that included Peter Hinchcliffe and Alan Wyness after all three players carded 37 points. Peter Tomlinson won nearest-the-pin on hole six.
The ladies’ event was won comprehensively by Kay Tomlinson who returned an impressive score of 39 points.
This easily accounted for purple patch player Ritsuko Dickinson who played to her handicap and amassed 36 points.
Countbacks were the order of the day in Friday’s Stroke event. Mark Norman and Derek Hall both carded respectable scores of 69 net. However, a superior back nine enabled Mark to claim victory.
Rob Hart, Alan White and Richard Goudie all returned a score of 72 net. Another count-back ensued with Rob being awarded third place. Richard Goudie won the nearest-the-pin award on hole 11.
Visiting golf nut Gary Cutler (Paradise Palms) blitzed the field in Saturday’s Stableford event with a masterful 41 points. Tony Dickinson played to his handicap and scored 36 points thus positioning him second place ahead of Norm Thomson who was outright third with 35 points. Alan White was awarded the nearest-thepin for his shot into hole number three.
