Jnr Muddies Hog win

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

STOMACH bugs and prior commitments saw only a determined half dozen Under-12 Muddies take up the challenge against the Atherton Wild Hogs in 30-plus degree heat at Tolga on Saturday.

The Under 12 Douglas Muddies were kindly supplemented by four of the Hog’s top players in a friendly end of year Christmas 20/20 match, complete with Santa hats and multi-coloured broad shorts, a colourful backdrop against a sea of white.

The Muddies started well with a wicket falling on the second ball of the innings by the brilliant bowling of Hugo Walker who finished the day with the best bowling figures of 3-4.

He was supported by other tight bowling by Ryan Doble 2-5, Tully Cartwright 1-7, Luke Twomey 1-9 and Aston Devonport 1-17.

The Muddies showed an improvement in the field by backing each other up and showing positive encouragement and communication with each other.

Luke displayed some good glove work as wicketkeeper (two catches) and Tully managed a superb catch at point. This kept the charging Hogs to a respectable innings total.

The Muddies responded with the bat with a display of power hitting by Tully Cartwright scoring 23 runs off 16 balls. He was closely supported by Hugo Walker, 16 off 10 balls, and Reuben Allison six off 10.

Together with the combined hitting power of the four players on loan, saw the Muddies score a comfortable win.
