Safety first message
PORT Douglas and Mossman police want to remind everyone to drive safe on the roads this Christmas season and lock up your cars and houses to protect your Christmas presents.
Acting Sergeant Alan Dempsey said during the festive season the number of burglaries increases.
“Make sure everything is secure because there’s an increase in break-ins and stealing at Christmas time, people are more desperate,” he said.
“Keep your doors locked in your home and your car especially if it’s full of Christmas presents and shopping.”
“Opportune crimes” have already started, with a 28-yearold man charged in Mossman over four break-and-enters of two cars and two houses on December 13 because they were all unlocked.
The properties and vehicles were located in South Mossman in Pringle and Wattle streets and Alchera Drive. The man has been remanded in custody to appear in court next year.
