PORT Dou­glas and Moss­man po­lice want to re­mind ev­ery­one to drive safe on the roads this Christ­mas sea­son and lock up your cars and houses to pro­tect your Christ­mas presents.

Act­ing Sergeant Alan Dempsey said dur­ing the fes­tive sea­son the num­ber of bur­glar­ies in­creases.

“Make sure every­thing is se­cure be­cause there’s an in­crease in break-ins and steal­ing at Christ­mas time, peo­ple are more des­per­ate,” he said.

“Keep your doors locked in your home and your car es­pe­cially if it’s full of Christ­mas presents and shop­ping.”

“Op­por­tune crimes” have al­ready started, with a 28-yearold man charged in Moss­man over four break-and-en­ters of two cars and two houses on De­cem­ber 13 be­cause they were all un­locked.

The prop­er­ties and ve­hi­cles were lo­cated in South Moss­man in Pringle and Wat­tle streets and Alchera Drive. The man has been re­manded in cus­tody to ap­pear in court next year.
