$15k coughed up via IGA Community Chest

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

AROUND $15,000 has been given away by Port Douglas IGA during the past 12 months to a multitude of different organisations thanks to its Community Chest program.

The Cornett’s IGA Community Chest has been set up with the express purpose of helping businesses, charities and local groups by generous donations funded by people who shop at IGA.

Shoppers are able to nominate their favourite group throughout the year and each time someone chooses that organisation they ’collect’ points and then every six months the points are tallied and this equates to dollars.

The chosen groups are then able to collect those dollars and use them at any time they are in need.

IGA Port Douglas manager Paul Scott said more than $90,000 had been raised since the program was first launched.

“This is a fantastic result and we are always pleased and proud to be part of this great community outpouring of generosity,” Mr Scott said.

“And we are fully aware that these aren’t the best of times at the moment for a lot people and businesses and so for $15,000 to be raised - well, it’s just magic and especially at this time of the year.”
