Hunt for hang glider

COM­PLAINTS have been raised about a pow­ered hand glider fly­ing dan­ger­ously close to the ground on Four Mile Beach last Sun­day.

Po­lice are con­duct­ing In­quiries to lo­cate the owner to speak with and re­mind them they still come un­der leg­is­la­tion re­quire- ments un­der the ul­tra light as­so­ci­a­tion of Aus­tralia and can­not fly be­low 500-feet.

Port Dou­glas Po­lice Of­fi­cer-in-charge Se­nior Sergeant Damien Meadows said re­spon­si­ble com­mer­cial char­ters such as Sky Sa­fari get spe­cial per­mis­sion to land on Four Mile Beach with an or­gan­ised land­ing area.

“In built up ar­eas they shouldn’t be fly­ing be­low 500-feet, ac­tion can be taken un­der the crim­i­nal code act for en­dan­ger­ing life,” he said.
