Power peaks af­ter Xmas

POWER us­age in the Far North peaked on Jan­uary 10 with 264 megawatts used, higher than over Christ­mas and New Year.

There have been no power out­ages yet over the sum­mer in the Dou­glas re­gion and Er­gon En­ergy is con­fi­dent the Far North power net­work is han­dling sum­mer de­mand.

Act­ing man­ager of re­gional ser­vices Gra­ham Lynes said the fig­ure was hit at 4.33pm on Jan­uary 10 but hot and hu­mid con­di­tions ahead could chal­lenge this peak.

“The high­est peak on our net­work was in fact in the sum­mer of 2010 when de­mand reached a whop­ping 373 megawatts,” he said.
