Power peaks after Xmas
POWER usage in the Far North peaked on January 10 with 264 megawatts used, higher than over Christmas and New Year.
There have been no power outages yet over the summer in the Douglas region and Ergon Energy is confident the Far North power network is handling summer demand.
Acting manager of regional services Graham Lynes said the figure was hit at 4.33pm on January 10 but hot and humid conditions ahead could challenge this peak.
“The highest peak on our network was in fact in the summer of 2010 when demand reached a whopping 373 megawatts,” he said.
