Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

WHEN rent became too high in Port Douglas, instead of giving up Jenny Atkins relocated her ice-cream store to Mossman.

Originally known as Wendys in Port Douglas, Jenny stayed with the franchise and is selling Wendys ice-cream under a licence agreement in her new store The Scoop.

“I had to leave Port Douglas because the rent, my rent was horrendous, I’m paying one-fifth of what I was paying there,” she said.

“I tried for nearly 12 months to negotiate with the landlord but they chose to let it go, this shop came up and d I said, ’That’s it I’m out’.

“Now I have a lot lower rent with very much the same turnover and similar products, it’s been really good, but I feel bad about leaving port Douglas.”

The Scoop has been open for four months and offers ice-cream, icecream cakes, coffee, cakes, shakes, hotdogs and internet facilities and the location is ideal - across the road from the school.
