CCTV helps catch thugs
CCTV footage has helped identify some alleged offenders involved in several brawls along Macrossan St after licensed premises closed on Saturday morning.
Police were called to the disturbances and Port Douglas Officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Damian Meadows said two people have been arrested so far.
“The CCTV footage certainly assisted police,” he said.
“Since then further information came to hand about another assault that police are investigating.”
The first assault allegedly occurred at the Court House Hotel when several fights broke out around one-and-a-half hours prior to the incident on Macrossan St, witnesses said.
“They were Mossman boys, who were just watching everyone and wanting to start a fight,” one witness said.
One man has received significant facial injuries and was taken to hospital and police are still investigating all altercations.
“Responsible Service of Alcohol is obviously contributing to the issues on the street,” Sgt Meadows said.
If you have any information or witnessed the altercations, call the Port Douglas police on 4087 1999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
