Sher­a­ton on Chi­nese map

CHINA is the world’s fastest-grow­ing travel mar­ket and re­cent fig­ures show the Dou­glas re­gion is start­ing to ben­e­fit.

The Sher­a­ton Mi­rage has re­ported an as­tound­ing 400 per cent in­crease on Chi­nese oc­cu­pancy for the Chi­nese New Year pe­riod com­pared to last year.

The Sher­a­ton will im­ple­ment Star­wood brand­ing from Fe­bru­ary 1 to main­tain this trend.

The group has in­tro­duced a new pro­gram that will cater to­wards Chi­nese trav­ellers, ac­com­mo­dat­ing cul­tural dif­fer­ences and pref­er­ences.

“We are tai­lor­ing to­wards Chi­nese ex­pec­ta­tions, with mea­sures such as em­ploy­ing Chi­nese speak­ing staff at re­cep­tion”, Sher­a­ton’s direc­tor of busi­ness de­vel­op­ment Ju­nichi Ta­makoshi said.

“It is es­sen­tial that lo­cal busi­ness work to­gether to cap­ture this emerg­ing and af­flu­ent mar­ket.”

The Sher­a­ton brand is well known in China with over 70 ho­tels and 90 new ho­tels in the pipe­line - with one ho­tel to open ev­ery two weeks this year.
