Omid moves magic carpet

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

AFTER 10 years at the Meridien Marina, Master’s Persian Carpet Gallery will be conducting an auction of some of its finest wool and silk carpets in preparation for its move to Macrossan Street in the coming weeks.

Owner Omid Master needs to significantly reduce his floor stock before moving and will hold a final auction on January 29.

“Each of the hand-woven designs are unique because the designers graphically dot paint the plan before beginning to weave the carpet and can take up to two years to complete,” Omid said.

Omid personally travels to the countries where the carpets are made and sources each masterpiece from the original weavers.

Although the main wing of the marina remains open, Omid said plans to demolish the centre means he will look to continue his long-term venture in Macrossan St.

Doors open for inspection of the carpets at 10am on Saturday with the auction starting at 2pm.
