Douglas region ranks highly with Trip Advisor
THE biggest online review website in the world has named two Port Douglas boutique resorts in the top 10 best hotels in Australia at the 2012 Travellers’ Choice awards.
Martinique on Macrossan scooped the third-best hotel in Australia by Trip Advisor voters and Coconut Grove Apartments was voted ninth-best, with local resorts Pink Flamingo (11th) and Saltwater Luxury Apartments (24th) also making the top 25 list.
The well-regarded Travellers awards are based solely on the opinions of millions of travellers globally and are determined based on a combination of travellers’ favourite places and overall destination popularity.
Accommodation providers in the Douglas region punched well above their weight in the Travellers’ Choice awards with several being recognised for excellence.
Martinique on Macrossan managers Antonia and Fred Eggers were astounded by the achievement.
“This is really great and positive for the area,” Antonia said.
“It’s also a rewarding achievement for us - many people rely on Trip Advisor when booking a holiday.
“When we bought this place five years ago, we were ranked 49 of Port Douglas hotels on Trip Advisor.”
Antonio and Fred pride themselves on their customer service and are delighted their efforts have been recognised by guests.
“Lots of people come back to us time and time again - word of mouth is our biggest advertisement,” Fred said.
“The most pleasant thing for us is guests leave with a smile and they come back from tours with a smile.
“People come here from all over the world - it’s a real international destination.
“We want them to have the best experience in this beautiful part of the world.”
