Exhibition pays off
POPULAR Port Douglas artist Tania Heben has sold one of her major paintings on the opening of her lastest exhibition at the Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns last week.
Heben said she was thrilled at the number of people who attended the opening of the exhibition and the opportunity it gave her to talk about her paintings and offer her advice to some of the budding artists in the audience.
The gifted artist was exhibiting her oil paintings depicting beautiful scenery works to summer views and blooms. Heben has 14 of her best pieces on display with some works worth $15,000.
As well as her own works, Heben is in a co-exhibition with another artist Louise “Lou” Derry who produces exquisite landscape works from pastels.
Heben said that she was also very grateful to the casino’s entertainment promotions manager Bruce Stewart who helped to organise this exhibition and many others throughout the year.
“It is really wonderful what the casino does for the arts community especiallyn here in Port Douglas,” Heben said.
“They have done this for many years and do a tremendous service to the arts in the region.
I personally wish to acknowledge this amazing effort . . . they organised the invitations and even supplied the food and drinks . . . at their expense.
“And the Meridien Marina has also been very kind to us in supplying us with a space, but we soon will have to move from there as they wish to carry out development works and then we will have nowhere to go.”
