First homebuyers extension

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

HOMEBUYERS living in the Douglas region can still get the first homeowners’ grant of $10,000 after the State Government extended the cash pool until the end of April.

NQ Homes owner Brad Small said that the State Government had made 14,000 grants of $10,000 available for people wanting to build new homes but only 2300 people have taken advantage of the offer.

“Because of the lower than expected uptake, the State Government has now extended the grants offer until the end of April,” Mr Small said.

“This is very encouraging news for our local market and I would advise people who are looking at buying a home to do their sums and to talk with their bank and if they are eligible to apply for the $10,000 grant -the grant is free money and does not have to be paid back.

“This grant is available to everyone who is eligible regardless if they previously bought or owned a home.

“As well as the $10,000 on offer to build new homes, a grant of $7000 is available to first homebuyers who wish to buy an established home.”

You can apply for the grants through an approved lending institution.
