Chamber hosts local candidates
LOCAL business operators will be given the chance to question candidates for the upcoming state election and listen to their proposals later this month.
The Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce will host a two-course lunch at the Sheraton Mirage on March 15 where all local candidates have been invited to speak and address their voting public.
“We have two local candidates confirmed, the LNP’S David Kempton and Member for Cook Jason O’brien, and are currently awaiting a response from other candidates,” Chamber of Commerce president Ken Dobbs said.
“Each candidate will be given an equal time allowance to present their proposals on local matters and an opportunity to respond to questions from attendees.”
Mr Dobbs expects the candidates to concentrate on major local concerns.
“We will invite candidates to address matters such as roundabouts, the waterfront proposals and how they aim to support tourism,” he said.
Priority will be given to Chamber of Commerce members but tickets will be made available to interested members of the public.
Booking details will be released on the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce website next week.
