“Peo­ple fish on­board our boat with the hope of reel­ing such a catch.

“We’re away to set off for a three-month fish­ing sea­son up Cape York, so this is a great omen for the start of it.”

As for the un­lucky mack­erel, Russ had no hes­i­ta­tion in shar­ing his good for­tune.

“It went straight on the barby and fed about 10 of us,” he said.
