Glaucoma reminder

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

ANYONE with a family history of glaucoma is urged to have their eyes examined regularly. World Glaucoma Week kicks off on Sunday and local optometrist Laura Henderson of Coral Sea Eyecare said there is a four times greater likelihood of developing the disease if a family member has glaucoma. “People with a family history of glaucoma need to have their eyes examined every two years,” she said. “It is crucial for people with glaucoma to speak to their families so they understand the necessity of regular eye examinations.” Glaucoma can lead to permanent blindness but can be treated effectively, especially if it is detected early.
