Marina redevelopment aims to cater for everyone

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

THE redeveloped Port Douglas Marina will have space for everyone, from super boats to trawlers.

Managing director of the marina, Russell Mccart, confirmed to the Gazette the fishing industry would not be shut out.

Mr Mccart addressed concerns raised by fishermen and explained how the fishing industry fitted into the redevelopment.

“We have a place for them next to the fish market and the fish and chip shop - we are supporting them,” he said.

“There are very few licensed fishermen in town, less than 10, but I want to reassure them that not only is it recommended in the master plan for the town, commercially I want to see it, it adds to the dimension of town.”

Mr Mccart is adamant fishing boats will get first preference over super yachts.

“Fishermen have the priority and they always will,” he said.

Mr Mccart said if any licensed fishermen had any queries or concerns about their role in the redevelopment they could contact marina manager Peter Jones on 4099 5775.
