More coconuts face chop

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

TREES at risk of falling down and blocking Ocean View Rd in Killaloe have been left even though council workers recently cut down palm trees for the same reason, residents claim.

Ridge Estate resident Jeff Coe has been left wondering why council did not consult him and his neighbours about their concerns regarding dangerous trees on council land.

“Without any prior warning the council contractors took out nine palm trees - I know it’s on council reserve and you got the right, but why take out palm trees and not the black wattles that drop,” he said.

“They are the more dangerous ones, they overhang right across the road and cause the problems.

“We’ve been here for 12 years and I’ve had to cut my way out five times and they were big trees - I carry chainsaw in the back of my ute all the time.”

A council spokesperson said if anyone had concerns they could contact council and someone would come and speak with them.

“We’re still waiting for the council to contact us back to discuss the situation about having no consultation,” Mr Coe said.

“We also want to ask if they’re going to take into account the other trees that are dangerous and will fall with a gust of wind.”
