Little local wildlife warrior

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

TEN-YEAR-OLD Mitch Ralston was being driven to school when his eager eyes spotted a turtle crossing the road at Mowbray yesterday.

Mum Sue swiftly applied the brakes and Mitch ran out to save the turtle, who was headed in the wrong direction from the nearby creek.

“He picked the turtle up and walked it down to the nearby creek to safety,” Sue said.

“He’s a huge lover of wildlife and was so excited to rescue the creature.”

“We occasionally see small turtles around near the creeks, but never one this big.

“Mitch usually gets the bus to school and was very glad that he got a ride to school today and managed to potentially save the turtle.”
