Playground boost at Trib
GURGLES of delight from happy children will soon be heard echoing down from Cape Tribulation after a number of young mums put their hands up to get a playground and new equipment for their kids.
One of the mums, Emma Mccarthy, said they approached Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu and Mayor Val Schier to explain the need for the playground and were delighted to get such a positive response.
“There are a number of young families in the community but there are not a lot of services that we can access, especially for young children, here in Cape Tribulation,” Mrs Mccarthy said.
“And we must also thank Dubuji who gave us the parcel of land that we can put the new equipment on and to develop it further by erecting shade sails.”
The site already has toilets and undercover picnic tables.
Cr Leu said she was thrilled to help get the project off the ground.
“It is so important for their wellbeing and while the kids have somewhere to play safely and to mix with their peers, it gives the mums a chance to catch up with each other and to share their thoughts and views and to enjoy some time out with other adults,” she said.
Cr Leu said that they are hoping to order the new play equipment by the end of April and it should be installed by the end of June.
The playground will be opposite Whet Restaurant in Cape Tribulation.
