Local talent to supply film biz
SCREEN Queensland has rolled out Talent Bank, a free website for businesses, facilities and crews to promote their services to the film industry.
The site is for any service that can be utilised in the production of films and documentaries, from actors, caterers, hairdressers, aviation companies, charter boats and tradesmen to animal handlers.
The one-stop-shop for potential productions is yet another initiative to lure the multi-billion-dollar industry to film in Far North Queensland.
Senior economic development and innovation officer for the Cairns Regional Council, Angelo Finocchiaro, has been working closely with Talent Bank as part of the council’s filming strategy.
“If a production is coming to the region, it enables the company to do a search online and it’s a way of getting people’s details to the production crews,” he said.
“Anyone who has worked in the film industry or done any sort of work should have their details submitted,” he said.
“We only have eight registered on there, Brisbane has 173 - it is imperative we get more.”
The website is a map-based system where people can search locations or categories of talent and is another step in making filming in the far north easier.
The first step was the council streamlining the application process to film in the region and cutting red-tape.
“If you’re considering Queensland as your next location, search the Talent Bank to find your crew,” Mr Finocchiaro said.
“It is a means to promote those companies that do work in the industry and have a bit of experience behind them, it also gives peoples the ability to list previous work they’ve done.
“It’s user-driven and up to people to get details on the bank so we can find them and production companies can find them.”
